Wittenberg Falls Short Against East Texas Baptist

TUSCON, Arizona—In game two of the Tiger's twin-bill, East Texas Baptist University got the best of the Tigers, as Wittenberg fell 10-1 in a five-inning game. Wittenberg scored their first run of the year after being shutout earlier in the day against MIT in the third inning after designated hitter Abby Curnutte smashed a double to right field, plating Olivia Hopkins. ETBU scored in every inning except the second, while tallying 12 hits in the game.

OFFENSIVE NOTES: Wittenberg's lineup struck out eight times in the loss, while Hopkins, Curnutte and Rachel Black accounted for Wittenberg's hits. Four Tigers were left on base in the loss, while Wittenberg did not draw a walk in the contest.

DEFENSIVE NOTES: Wittenberg again fell victim to three errors, as starting pitcher Chelsea Zang allowed ten runs, five of which were earned. Zang scattered 12 hits in four innings of work before being relieved by freshman Katelyn Niswonger, as the reigning NCAC Pitcher of the Year struck out one batter and issued two walks in her first game of 2018. Niswonger's debut in a Tiger uniform totaled one inning of work, one walk and no runs allowed.

UP NEXT: The Tigers look to bounce back tomorrow in Arizona against Moravian.
