Curnutte and Zang Named NFCA First Team All-Region

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Abby Curnutte and Chelsea Zang were named 2017 NFCA Division Three All-Region on Monday night. 15 total player from each region were selected for each team, as Curnutte and Zang represent Wittenberg on the NFCA's Central Region First Team. 

 

Curnutte led the Tigers in batting average (.381),hits (40), homeruns (5) and was tied for the team lead with 27 RBI's. An Urbana, Ohio native, the Tigers designated player also slugged six doubles on the year, while walking 15 times in 105 at-bats. Curnutte was also named first-team All-NCAC upon the conclusion of the Tigers 29-7 campaign.

 

Zang dominated in the circle all year for the Tigers, as the junior put together a campaign that featured an 18-3 record, and a 1.48 ERA. In 139.2 innings pitched, the back-to-back NCAC Pitcher of the Year struck out 80 batters, while only walking 14. A Cincinnati, Ohio native, Zang started 20 games on the bump for the Tigers, logging 17 complete games with eight other relief appearances.

 

Wittenberg ran through the NCAC in 2017, recording a 15-1 regular season conference record, and the number-one seed in the NCAC Tournament. The Tigers played host to the four team NCAC Tournament, ending their season with a record of 29-7.
