#23 Wittenberg Sweeps Double-Header Against Denison

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg remained unblemished in NCAC play with two more victories over Denison on Tuesday. The Tigers have managed to remain battle tested, winning close contested games day in and day out, as the Tigers dropped the Big Red of Denison 3-0 and 5-3 at Betty Doughman-Dillahunt Field.

GAME ONE SCORING BREAKDOWN  

Bottom 1st

  • The fireworks started early for the Tigers on Tuesday, as starting hurler Chelsea Zang hit a long homerun, scoring Abby Curnutte, as Wittenberg led 2-0.

Bottom 5th

  • Casey Hobbs tacked on the final insurance run for Wittenberg with an RBI single to right-field, plating freshman shortstop Olivia Hopkins.

GAME TWO SCORING BREAKDOWN

Bottom 1st

  • The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in game two, after Curnutte sent a ball deep to right field, scoring Hopkins.

Bottom 3rd

  • Hobbs sent another single to right field, again scoring Hopkins, tying the game up at 2-2.

Bottom 5th

  • The Tigers busted the game open in the bottom of the fifth, as Curnutte sliced a ball into center field, scoring Hopkins and Lauren Buelow on the play.
  • After an error by the shortstop on a batted ball from Wendy Hawk, Hobbs crossed the plate to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead.

KEY STATS

  • Zang improved to 13-1 on the year, earning the victory in both ends of the double-header, as the junior righty surrendered six hits on the day, including a complete game shutout in game one.
  • The Tigers were outhit 4-3 in game one by the Big Red, but managed to scratch and claw runs across despite striking out 12 times at the plate.
  • Hopkins scored four times for the Tigers on Tuesday, as Curnutte recorded three RBI's in the double-header sweep.
