Tiger Softball Wins Game Two of NCAC Tournament over OWU 7-3

GREENCASTLE, Indiana- Wittenberg Tiger softball continued to take care of business in NCAC tournament play on Friday, as the team squared off against the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University. OWU handed the Tigers one of their only NCAC losses during the regular season, but it was all Tigers on Friday in the 7-3 victory. The Tigers now await the winner between DePauw and OWU tomorrow morning at 10:00AM. Wittenberg will square off against the winner at 12:30PM, with their competitor having to beat the Tigers twice to take home the title.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • The Tigers trailed again early, but managed to utilized a six run inning in the fifth to down OWU.  
  • In the inning, the Tigers batted around after seven hits and two home runs.
  • Casey Hobbs (Fairborn, Ohio/Carroll) and Charlee Clark (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) both sent pitches over the wall for the Tigers, as the duo combined for five RBI's in the inning.
  • Clark got the job done again for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking a OWU pitch deep to centerfield that turned into a sac fly, scoring Katy Baumgartner (Fishers, Indiana/Cathedral).

KEY STATS

  • Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) went the distance for the Tigers, scattering six innings over her seven innings of work, striking out four and walking one.
  • Hobbs connected on four hits in the game, plating three RBI's for the Tigers in game two of the day, while also stealing two bases.
  • Kaela Hughes (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Watterson) ignited the Tiger offense all afternoon, connecting for three hits in the victory.
  • As a team, the Tigers recorded 15 hits on the day, as seven different Tigers reached base safely.
