#25 Wittenberg Drops Two to NCAC Foe DePauw

GEENCASTLE, Indiana—Wittenberg softball made the trip to Indiana to take on NCAC foe DePauw on Wednesday night, and struggled to get things going offensively on the day. Earlier in the week, the Tigers received a #25 ranking in the coach's poll, but the team lost its first double-header of the season on Wednesday night. The visiting Tigers managed to produce only two hits on the day, losing both games 5-1 and 5-0. Wittenberg now sits at 23-6-1 overall in 2016, and 7-3 in conference play.

GAME NOTES

  • Katy Baumgartner (Fishers, Indiana/Cathedral) recorded a hit in both ends of the double-header, accounting for all of Wittenberg's hits on Wednesday.
  • The Tigers were able to draw six walks on the day, as Missy Lee (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) and Baumgartner were able to steal bases in game one.
  • Reigning NCAC pitcher of the week Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) tossed seven and a third innings, surrendering nine hits and five earned runs on the day, moving to 12-4 on the season.
  • Abby Haab (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) got the ball in game two for Wittenberg, as the sophomore went three innings, surrendering just five hits.
