SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Mentally and physically preparing for four games in two-days is no easy task mid-season, but on Wednesday Wittenberg softball made this look easy, taking two games from Kenyon College after taking two from Oberlin the day before. Wittenberg defeated the Ladies 5-2 and 2-1 to improve to 21-4-1 on the season, and 5-1 in NCAC play. Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) dealt eight innings on the day, surrendering one hit and striking out seven in another dominant performance.
GAME ONE NOTES
- Wittenberg only needed six hits to push five runs across against Kenyon, as the Tigers scored in the second, third, and fourth innings Wednesday.
- Katy Baumgartner (Fishers, Indian/Cathedral), Loren Combs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) and Kaela Hughes (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Watterson) all produced two hits apiece, which accounted for all of Wittenberg's hits in game one.
- Baumgartner recorded two RBI's to lead the Tigers, as well as recording the Tigers only extra-base hit in game one, in the form of a triple.
GAME TWO NOTES
- After both teams' struck in the first inning with a single run, it was the Tigers who broke the tie in the bottom of the second as Lauren Buelow (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) smashed a double, scoring Abby Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield).
- Abby Haab (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) earned the win in game two after hurling three innings, surrendering three hits and striking out four.
- Zang, the game one winner, took care of the rest in relief of Haab, silencing the Ladies' bats, tossing four innings of no-hit ball to end the game.
KEY STATS
- Baumgartner and Zang only needed 63 pitches to mow through Kenyon in game one, as the duo combined to throw nearly 70 percent strikes in the 5-2 win.
- Game two was more of the same on the mound for the Tigers, as this time Haab and Zang combined for 95 pitches in the 2-1 victory, 65 percent of which were strikes.
- The Tigers continues to be a nightmare on the base paths for opposing teams, swiping seven more bags on the day.
UP NEXT
- The Tigers travel to Granville, Ohio on April 16 to take on the Denison Big Red in a NCAC double-header, first pitch set for 1:00PM.
