Softball Splits with Anderson University on the Road

ANDERSON, Indiana- After getting one-hit in the first game of a double-header, the Wittenberg Tigers managed to split the day against Anderson University with a 7-2 victory in game two. While the Tiger offense could not figure out Anderson's starter in game one, the visiting team was poised enough at the plate to crank out nine hits in game two, including a five run third inning in route to a victory. The split puts the Tigers at a 14-3 mark on the season with NCAC beginning April 2.

GAME 1 NOTES

  • Shannon Lance (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) recorded the only hit for the Tigers in the 8-0 loss, as Anderson's starter managed to strike out only three Tigers and walk none.
  • After reaching on a fielder's-choice, freshman Missy Lee (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) managed to steal second in the top of the fourth to serve as the only Tiger who would reach scoring position in game one.
  • Katy Baumgartner (Fishers, Indiana/Cathedral) and Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scattered seven hits and seven earned runs over five and a third innings in the 8-0 loss.

  • The Tigers did not stop there, as a huge five run third inning was capped off by a three-run homerun by Kaela Hughes (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Watterson), scoring Abby Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) who doubled one batter earlier, and Hobbs.
  • Carley Sullivan (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) smacked a double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Tigers their seventh run of the game, scoring Lee, as the Tigers would go on to win 7-2.
