Wittenberg Moves to 4-0 After Double-Header Sweep

CLERMONT, Florida—Wittenberg continued their hot start to 2016 with a 6-5 victory over Cornell College Tuesday, and a 12-2 victory over Lebanon Valley. Starting pitcher Chelse Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) went the distance again for the Tigers in Game one, scattering seven hits and one earned run in seven innings. Offensively, Wittenberg was led by junior Casey Hobbs (Fairborn, Ohio/Carroll) who plated two RBI's on the day on a beautifully placed single to right field.  In the second game of the double-header, Wittenberg defeated Lebanon Valley 12-2 in a five-inning affair. Lauren Beulow (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby), Katy Baumgartner (Fishers, Indiana/Cathedral), Loren Combs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), and Shannon Lance combined for 9 Tiger hits in the second game of the day. From the mound, it was Abby Haab's (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) turn to toe the rubber, scattering three hits and three strikeouts over four innings of work. Wittenberg's 2-0 day moves the squad to 4-0 on the young season, going into the teams off day.

DOUBLE-HEADER-HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Tiger offense combined for 26 hits and 18 runs on the day, highlighted by Beulow's four hits and Abby Baker's (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) 3 RBI's.
  • Haab and Zang only issued three walks on the day, while striking out seven in 12 total innings of work.
  • Wittenberg only recorded three extra-base hits on the day, as timely hitting drove the offense all afternoon.
  •  In terms to offensive producvity, Wittenberg was near the top as a team in both games, striking out only six times as a team in 53 total at-bats.
