CLERMONT, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers have sent two freshmen to the pitcher's circle for every inning so far in the 2015 season. They are growing up quickly, as evidenced by their dominant performances in a pair of victories over Fontbonne and Millikin.

The day started with a 1-0 nailbiter against Fontbonne as the Tigers pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Game 2 didn't get underway until after 7 p.m., but the Tigers made it quick night, scoring six times in the first inning en route to a 9-1 decision in just six innings against Millikin.

The wins moved Wittenberg to 5-3 on the young season, heading into a challenging final day that includes games against perennial powerhouse Hope and No. 1-ranked defending national champion Tufts.

Against Fontbonne, freshman Abby Haab (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) kept the opposition scoreless over the first four innings while allowing one hit and four walks. Freshman Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) added three shutout innings of relief on just two hits and one walk.

Zang picked up her third pitching victory thanks to an RBI single in the sixth off the bat of senior Ashlee Wright (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont), which drove in junior Kaela Hughes (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson). Wright and sophomore Abby Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) each finished 2-for-2 in the game.

The win over Millikin featured an offensive outburst as the Tigers collected 11 hits in just six innings. Wright completed a perfect day at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, including her second double and two more runs batted in. Sophomore Casey Hobbs (Fairborn, Ohio/Carroll) also collected three hits in four plate appearances, scoring three times and driving in two more.

The run support made a winner out of Haab, who scattered four hits and allowed a lone unearned run while striking out seven.
