Springfield, Ohio – When the Wittenberg University softball team hosts North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Denison at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, the Tigers will be playing for a cause greater than a spot in the standings.

The Tigers will host the program’s seventh annual Strike Out Cancer event at Betty Dillahunt Field, part of the nationwide Strike Out Cancer program organized annually by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Wittenberg event will raise funds and awareness to support cancer research in honor of Vicky Clark, the mother of current Tiger, freshman Charlee Clark, who is battling breast cancer, and all others affected by the disease.

“We are so excited to be able to honor cancer survivors, as well as support the Clark family,” said Head Coach Laura Matthews. “I’m happy that we are able to help with this fundraising effort and help families affected by cancer.”

The Tigers will wear special uniforms for the event. Pre-ordered T-shirts have been sold for $15, and they will also be on sale the day of the game. In addition, a variety of other items will be raffled off during the games.

Admission to the game is free, but donations will be accepted. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to help cancer patients.

Wittenberg is off to a solid start to the 2015 season, checking in with records of 14-12 overall and 7-3 in the NCAC heading into key conference home games against Denison, DePauw and Hiram in the final week of the league’s regular season title chase.
