Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University softball standout Cameron Catalfu, class of 2010 from Loveland, Ohio, has been recognized for the combination of her athletic and academic accomplishments with second-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.

This is the first Academic All-District IV award for Catalfu. The selections are a result of online voting conducted recently by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Only student-athletes who make the first team in district voting can be considered for Academic All-America awards.

Catalfu, who carries a 3.84 grade point average while majoring in East Asian Studies, led the team in home runs (4), walks (22), total bases (63) and runs scored (23). She also ranked among the team leaders in doubles (8), hits (41), stolen bases (7) and batting average (.366) while starting 36 of the team’s 40 games in center field in 2010. She was charged with just one error all season.

The 2007 NCAC Newcomer of the Year and a four-year starter for the Tigers, Catalfu finished her career ranked among the best in program history in home runs, stolen bases, runs scored, at-bats and hits, while holding the mark for career walks by a wide margin. She holds the school record for walks in a season while ranking second in both runs scored and home runs in a season.

Her accomplishments in the classroom have been even more impressive. She has been inducted into numerous honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa, Chi Alpha Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta and Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Catalfu has also served as treasurer in the East Asian Studies Club and is the recipient of the East Asian Studies senior award.

The Tigers finished fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season standings at 8-6. Wittenberg went on to reach the NCAC Tournament championship game before losing to host Denison twice on May 8 to finish 19-21 overall.
