Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University is mourning the loss of cross country student-athlete Chase Gage, class of 2017, who was killed in a car accident on Wednesday, May 13, in Urbana, Ohio.

Gage was a two-year letterwinner with the Tiger men’s cross country team, in addition to a letter earned in 2014 following the men’s track and field season. A graduate of Grandview High School in suburban Columbus, Ohio, Gage had just completed his sophomore year at Wittenberg, where he was majoring in entrepreneurship.

“On behalf of Wittenberg University’s Department of Athletics, I wish to express our deepest sympathies to Chase’s parents, Quint and Laura, his family and loved ones,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Gary Williams. “This is a strong and resilient community, and in a short amount of time our campus has come together to find ways to support one another and be of comfort for all those that Chase impacted.

“Chase is a fifth generation Tiger, and that in and of itself speaks volumes about the type of passion and love his family has for our university. It has been families like Chase's that believe in what this university has to offer that have allowed us to keep the tradition of excellence we have today. It is a loss like this, of one of our own, that feels akin to losing a member of one's family. Please keep Chase’s family, our students, athletes, and coaches in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Celebration of Life Services for Gage will take place Sunday, May 17, at  Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Blvd., Upper Arlington, Ohio. The full obituary and service information can be found here: http://johnquint.com/?publisher=4846312192.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Chase Gage Scholarship/Memorial Fund at P. O. Box 126, Grandview Heights, Ohio 43212. Chase's house at Wittenberg will be the first gift to the scholarship fund.
