The Tigers didn't compete last week, instead taking
advantage of some downtime to prepare for the upcoming North Coast
Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 27 at Wabash College in
Crawfordsville, Ind.
On the women's side, Wittenberg is led by junior
co-captain Abi Gerstle (Kettering,
Ohio/Fairmont), an All-NCAC cross country and track
athlete a year ago who is attempting to become the first Wittenberg
runner to qualify for the national meet twice in her career.
Gerstle, the top finisher in last year's meet who is returning to
the field in 2001, has been followed closely by senior
co-captainSarah Weide (Ft. Wayne,
Ind./Homestead), a second-team All-NCAC qualifier a
year ago. Freshman Vanessa Tilton (Camden,
Ohio/Twin Valley South) and
sophomoreBecky Barnes (Williamsport,
Ohio/Williamsport) have consistently run strong
behind Gerstle and Weide.
On the men's side, senior Dave Hyde
(Naperville, Ill./Central) has led the team all
season and is in search of his first all-conference finish this
weekend. Junior Nick Dewald (Mansfield,
Ohio/Senior) is the Tigers' top returning
runner after he made second-team All-NCAC in 2000. Also in the
Tigers' top five this year have been
senior Luke Clarkson (Bascom,
Ohio/Hopewell-Louden),
senior Scott Huntoon (Mentor,
Ohio/Mentor) and
sophomore Tim Damopoulous (Grove City,
Ohio/Grove City).
