SPRINGFIELD — Four Wittenberg men's volleyball student-athletes and head coach Nathan Matthews earned All-Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League recognition for the 2024 season, as selected by the league's 10 head coaches.

Winners of the 2024 MCVL regular-season championship, the Tigers earned two of the league's superlative honors, as freshman Reese Monnin (Xenia, Ohio/Carroll) was named Rookie of the Year while Matthews was named Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) earned All-MCVL First Team recognition, and Monnin, senior Tom Supan (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and sophomore Eli Halverson (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) were named to the All-MCVL Second Team.

This marks the second straight year for a Tiger to be named the Rookie of the Year, as Halverson earned the honor in 2023. This also marks the second straight season for Matthews as MCVL Coach of the Year.

A two-time MCVL Offensive Player of the Week honoree this season, Yurk leads the Tigers with 308 kills and 32 service aces, both of which rank fourth in the MCVL. He has hit .277 on the year while adding 151 digs and 29 blocks to his stat line.

Yurk's kill total ranks second in program history for a single season, and he ranks fifth all-time at Wittenberg with 501 career kills.

Monnin closed the regular season with an MCVL-best .414 hitting percentage. He ranks second on the team with 42 blocks this season and fourth in kills with 142.

An All-MCVL First Team selection in 2023, Halverson is now a two-time All-League pick. He has hit .281 on the season and ranks second on the team in kills with 221. His stat line also includes 103 digs, 22 blocks and 18 aces. He currently ranks seventh in program history with 478 career kills.

Supan is another two-time All-MCVL selection after earning First Team honors in 2023. He leads the team and ranks seventh in the MCVL in digs with 206 this season, and his 31 aces rank second on the team and fifth in the league. He has a .226 hitting percentage this season to go with 201 kills and 31 blocks, both of which rank third on the team.

Supan's dig total ranks fourth-all-time at Wittenberg for a single season. The program record-holder for career aces with 77, he ranks sixth all-time in career digs with 339 and ninth all-time in career kills with 420.

Now a back-to-back MCVL Coach of the Year, Matthews guided the Tigers to an 18-8 record during the regular season, including a perfect 9-0 mark in MCVL play. Wittenberg earned the league's regular-season championship outright this season after finishing in a three-way tie for first place in 2023.

Wittenberg closed the regular season with eight consecutive victories and is hosting the four-team MCVL Tournament on Friday and Saturday as the No. 1 seed. The Tigers will face fourth-seeded Mount Union in the second of Friday's semifinal games at 7 p.m. following the matchup between third-seeded Trine and second-seeded Baldwin Wallace at 4 p.m. The winners of those matches will face off in the tournament championship on Saturday at 3 p.m.
