Tiger Men's Volleyball Drops Decision Against Southern Virginia

Roanoke, Virginia - Wittenberg men's volleyball opened a weekend competition at Roanoke College with a 3-0 loss to NCAA Division II scholarship program Southern Virginia.

The Tigers fell to 1-2 on the young season, heading into Saturday matches against the host Maroons and Lees-McRae, another NCAA Division II scholarship program. Southern Virginia, ranked fourth in the nation, improved to 3-0.

Southern Virginia won the three sets by decisive margins of 25-10, 25-18, 25-18. The Knights attacked at a much higher percentage, finishing at .224 compared to .058 for the Tigers, and Southern Virginia pounded 13 service aces against just two for Wittenberg.

Wittenberg's offense was led by Tom Supan (Medina, OH / Medina) with eight kills and Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) with six kills. Andrew diaz de Padilla (Nipmo, CA / Central Coast New Tech) dished out 13 assists, and he also led Wittenberg's defense with four digs.
