Tigers Fall in Tough Weekend Matches

Springfield, OH -- Over the weekend, the Men's Volleyball team hosted the Wittenberg Triangular with the Marian Sabres and the Trine Thunderstorm. The Tigers battled hard, but ultimately fell in both matches, 3-1. Versus the Sabres, Tigers fell 18-25, 25-16, 17-25, 17-25 and against the Thunder, 16-25, 25-19, 18-25, 17-25. 

Against Marian, freshman Jack Boone proved himself with a kill percentage of .429 with 17 total kills and 28 attempts. Senior Russ Burke played all lines, 10 kills and six digs with three assists. Enhancing his offensive pressure, graduate Aaron Giorgi had six kills and three aces, but carried the assists with 31 along with six digs. 

When facing Trine, Burke lead the offense with 12 successful kills on 44 attempts of the total 137, forcing Trine's defense collecting 69 digs. Junior Dominic Melchiorre played the back line with 11 digs along with eight kills. Junior Chris Goertz also helped the defense with 11 digs and Giorgi had five digs along with 32 of the 34 assists. 

Tigers will be back staying at home for their next match on Friday, March 4, versus Baldwin Wallace at 7:00 p.m.
