Tigers Send Off Inaugural Men's Volleyball Class In AMCC Sweep

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team celebrated careers of 10 seniors on Saturday afternoon, as they hosted the AMCC Quad Invitational from the 1929 Fieldhouse. The Tigers welcomed in three fellow AMCC opponents for the weekend, including D'Youville College, Medaille College and Penn State Altoona. Wittenberg opened the day, facing off against the Mavericks of Medaille, taking down the Mavericks in straight sets 3-0 [25-20, 25-17, 25-21]. The Tigers returned to action later in the afternoon to honor their senior class in front of a packed house, before taking on the Spartans of D'Youville. In the final match of the day, Wittenberg defeated D'Youville in straight sets 3-0 [25-22, 25-21, 25-18]. The Wittenberg offense was led Jackson Tyler on the afternoon logging 23 kills on 36 total attack attempts. After picking up two key wins on the day, the Tigers move to 19-10 on the season and 10-3 in AMCC action, improving their most recent win streak to seven in a row.

Match One Breakdown

Wittenberg outhit Medaille in each set on the day, opening the afternoon with 14 kills on 30 swings for a .267 kill percentage. The Tigers maintained control throughout the first set, extending an early 10-5 lead off the Isaiah Brock kill. Wittenberg held on to the advantage, going up 16-11 on the Ross Russell service ace. The Tigers continued their momentum in the second set, taking a 15-10 lead on the Tyler kill from the Noah Wissel assist. Wittenberg continued on to extend their advantage out 23-17, holding the Mavericks scoreless before sealing the second set win. The Tigers took the match in a third set battle, out swinging the Mavericks .286 to .185, while logging 16 kills on 35 total attack attempts.

Match Two Breakdown

Wittenberg continued their offensive dominance in the second match outhitting the Spartans of D'Youville in each set of the afternoon. The Tigers opened the match with 13 kills on 31 total attack attempts for a .226 attacking percentage. The two sides battled back and forth through the early going, before extending their lead off the Russell service ace at 20-18 and going on to take the first set, 25-22. Continuing their momentum in the second half, the Tigers tallied 15 kills on 27 swings for a .333 attacking percentage. Wittenberg held onto a 20-16 advantage, before closing out the Spartans to take a 2-0 lead. Wittenberg closed out the senior day celebration with a 25-18 win over the Spartans of D'Youville, logging a .375 attacking percentage with 11 kills on 24 total attacks.
