Brock Tabbed As AMCC Player of the Week

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's volleyball, baseball, lacrosse, tennis and women's softball for the period running from March 18-24, 2019.

Men's Volleyball: Wittenberg OH Isaiah Brock led the Wittenberg service effort with five aces, planting 15 kills on 26 total attacks in two matches from the newly renovated 1929 Gym. The senior finished the weekend with a .423 attcking percentage, recording a .500 kill percentage to start the day against Hiram. Brock led the Tigers to a 2-0 record in AMCC play, sweeping both Hiram and Geneva 3-0. For the week, he averaged 2.50 kills/set, 0.83 service aces/set, 0.83 blocks per set, and 3.9 points per set.  

Softball (Player): Franciscan INF Anna Swierczewski had a monster week for the Lady Barons to lead them to a 4-0 week in non-conference play. Swierczewski was 11-for-15 with three multi-hit games, including going 4-for-4 against Waynesburg. She drove in seven runs, scored five times and had three extra base hits, including a home run. The freshman struck out just once in 16 plate appearances. The first baseman was perfect in the field making 36 putouts and no errors while adding three assists and turning one double play.

Softball (Pitcher): Franciscan FR Sarah Keating picked up two more wins this past week to head into conference play. Keating threw two complete games and gave up just four earned runs in 14 innings for a 2.0 ERA. The freshman posted a season-best 10 strikeouts in FUS's 8-2 win over Waynesburg. Opponents had just 11 hits off of her and she walked just one as Keating improved to 5-0 on the year.

Men's Lacrosse (Offensive): Alfred State A Joe Johnson registered 15 points in a pair of victories this week for the Pioneers. He scored five goals and passed out three assists in a win over Medaille and then scored twice and passed out five helpers in a victory over Franciscan.

Men's Lacrosse (Defensive): Alfred State GK Matt Cobb earned a pair of victories in net. He made 12 saves and had a save percentage of 60% in a win over Medaille. He also made eight saves and had a 66.7% save percentage in a win over Franciscan.

Baseball (Player): Pitt-Greensburg OF Ben Green put together an impressive performance at the plate to lead the Bobcats to a 4-1 record, including two wins at Medaille, to open AMCC play. Green posted a .462 batting average, with three home runs, 11 RBI, 11 runs scored, a double, and two walks. He drilled home runs against Chatham, at Thiel, and at Medaille and posted multi-hit efforts in four of the five games, including a 4-for-6 performance with four runs, a home run, and three RBI in the second game against Medaille. Green is currently tied for the conference lead in home runs (4) and is third in RBI (15).

Baseball (Pitcher): Pitt-Greensburg SO Andy Prentice went 2-0 for the Bobcats this past week, where he allowed just one run on four hits and struck out six. Prentice did not allow a hit in one inning of relief against Chatham and allowed just one run on four hits over 6.0 strong innings with five strikeouts, in the opening game of the afternoon against Medaille. He threw 7.0 total innings and surrendered just one run for a 1.29 ERA on the week. 

Men's Tennis: PS-Behrend FR Mitchell May was instrumental in helping the Lions post a 2-0 record in AMCC action this weekend, as Behrend picked up wins over Mount Aloysius and PS-Altoona. May tallied a pair of singles wins at the No. 3 and 4 spots, while teaming with Brent McFarland for two wins at No. 2 doubles.
