Tigers Sweep Eastern Mennonite In Straight Sets

Harrisonburg, Va. The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team took down Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-17). The Tigers held off a late Royals rally in the second set, as 11 Eastern Mennonite errors crippled the home team's comeback attempt. Deion Woodson led the Wittenberg attack, smashing 11 kills on 22 attack attempts for a .364 kill percentage while adding three digs to his credit. The Tigers closed out the day with planting 37 kills on 84 total attack attempts for a .274 attacking percentage.

Match Breakdown

Wittenberg jumped out to an early 8-3 lead over Eastern Mennonite in the first set, holding on their advantage at 20-15 and closing out the first set win at 25-20. The Tigers opened up the match with a .200 hitting percentage, logging 11 kills on 25 attack attempts. In a battle of a second set, the Wittenberg defense stepped up holding Eastern Mennonite to a .098 hitting percentage. In a back and forth second set, the two sides traded points through the early going before the Red and White were able to extend their lead down the backstretch. Wittenberg did not hold back in the final set, jumping out to a quick five-point advantage, holding an early 12-7 lead over Eastern Mennonite. The Tigers would not take their foot off of the gas until the final point of the match was scored, maintaining the advantage from start to finish.

Who Stood Out

Gabriel Lamar finished with a .500 attacking percentage, putting down seven kills on 12 attacks with only one error. Lamar would also finish with three blocks and an ace to his credit. Isaiah Brock added five kills on 10 attack attempts with just one error, while providing five blocks to go along with one ace. Ross Russell (16)  and Noah Wissel (15) provided over half of the Wittenberg assists on the afternoon, as the Red and White finished with 34. Russell would also tally three aces and two digs, while Wissel provided an ace.
