Tigers Complete Season Sweep Of Mount Union

Alliance, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's volleyball team completed their season sweep of the Raiders from the University of Mount Union on Tuesday night, picking up the win, 3-0 (30-28, 25-22, 25-15). The Tigers tallied a .110 hitting percentage on the night, logging 34 kills on 100 total attacks and 12 blocks on the evening. Isaiah Brock led the Tiger attack with nine kills on 21 total attack attempts with just two errors for a .333 kill percentage. Brock added four blocks and a dig on the night. With this win, Wittenberg moves to 8-5 on the season, picking up their third straight win after a short turnaround from three matches over the weekend.

Match Breakdown

Wittenberg captured an early 12-5, before extending their advantage over the Raiders to 19-12 on a kill by Brock.  The Tigers fended off a late Mount Union attack, as the Raiders cut the Wittenberg lead to 23-21 before the game became tied at 24-24. Wittenberg rallied back to regain the lead, taking advantage of the Mount Union service error followed by an attacking error by the Raiders. Back-to-back attack errors by Mount Union would seal the first set win at 30-28 for the Red and White. Moving into the second set, Wittenberg held Mount Union to a -.033 hitting percentage, allowing just seven kills by the Raiders. The Tigers took an early 12-8 lead moving through the second set. The Red and White continued to roll in the second set, maintaining their advantage on their way to the 25-22 win. The Tigers tallied their best set of the night on their way to closing out the Raiders, logging a .150 attacking percentage with eight kills on 20 total attack attempts.

Who Stood Out

Collin Buelow tallied eight kills on 19 total attempts, adding seven digs, two aces and two blocks on the night. Gabriel Lamar logged a team-high .364 kill percentage, recording five kills on 11 total attack attempts with just one error, going along with an ace and two blocks. Blake Sobieralski finished the night with six kills on 13 attack attempts for a .308 hitting percentage, with a block. Noah Wissel led the offense with 29 of the 32 total assists on the night, adding 10 digs to his total on the evening.
