Beaver Falls, Pa. – The Wittenberg men's volleyball team open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action, taking on the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College, falling in a tough 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 29-27, 25-16) match. Wittenberg was led by Ashton Sellers with 11 kills and Collin Buelow with 10 kills on the night. Wittenberg tallied a .145 hitting percentage on the night, logging 47 kills and two aces. The Tigers move to 5-5 on the season and 0-1 in AMCC play.
Match Breakdown
Despite outhitting Geneva in the first set, the Gold Tornados took the early advantage with the 25-21 win. The Tigers tallied 14 kills on 42 total attack attempts for a .190 hitting percentage in the first set. Wittenberg rallied to take the second set 25-22, bringing the match back to even at one set apiece. The Tigers were forced to overcome an early Geneva lead, as the offensive of the Red and White score nine straight points to capture a 19-14 advantage. Wittenberg held on to the lead the remainder of the set, as the two sides would go on to continue to trade points. Wittenberg jumped out to a quick 18-9 lead in the third set before the Golden Tornadoes would begin to chip away and make things interesting down the stretch. After Geneva fought their way back into the match, the two sides would see the scoreboard show a tie-game six times before the Golden Tornadoes took the final points. Geneva would take the fourth set 25-16. The Tigers tallied nine kills on 26 total attack attempts in the final set.
Who Stood Out
Deion Woodson led the Tigers in hitting percentage at .400 on the night, tallying seven kills on 15 total attack attempts with one error. The Tigers had three players finish with five kills including, Isaiah Brock, Russell Burke, and Gabriel Lamar. Ross Russell (23) and Noah Wissel (16) tallied 39 of the Tigers 44 assists on the night. Russell would add nine digs, while Wissel provided six.

Wittenberg will get back to the action on Saturday, Feb. 9 from Hiram College in a tri-match with Hiram College and Brooklyn College beginning at 11:00 AM. The Tigers will take on the host Hiram College at 11:00 AM, before facing off against Brooklyn College at 1:00 PM.
