Wittenberg Men's Volleyball Sweeps Weekend Road Trip

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team rolled to their second and fourth straight win, taking down the Olivet College Comets on Friday night in straight sets 3-0 [25-16, 25-14, 27-25]. The Tigers took down Adrian in their second straight day of competition 3-0 [25-16, 25-15, 25-21]. Wittenberg recorded a .266 attacking percentage to open the weekend, converting on 36 of 79 total attack attempts against the Comets of Olivet. The Tiger's offense was led by Deion Woodson and Ashton Sellers each tallying nine kills in the game. Woodson led the team in offensive efficiency with a .438 attacking percentage, converting on nine of 16 attempts with just two errors, adding five errors and a block assist. Isaiah Brock converted on seven total attacks for four kills with just one error with a .429 attacking percentage.

 

MATCH ONE

Wittenberg jumped out to an early lead, maintaining an early 7-3 advantage. The Tiger's pushed their lead out to 13-8 after the kill by Sellers. With the Tiger lead at 13-12, an Olivet service error would jumpstart the Wittenberg offense, as they would go on to extend their lead to 21-15. Allowing the Comets just one more point in the first set, a block by Woodson and Mason Moldovan led to the final Wittenberg kill by Sellers in the first set. After a quick lead in the second set, Olivet battled back to knot things back up at 10-10, as the Wittenberg attack picked back up starting with a bad set from Olivet. A Wittenberg service run by Woodson would extend the Tiger lead out to 21-11, before taking the final by a 25-14 decision. Wittenberg held off Olivet in a hard-fought third set, battling the Comets to 8-8 score. Coming back from a 17-15 Olivet lead, Wittenberg would go on to outscore the Comets in the end 27-25.

 

MATCH TWO

Wittenberg picked up their third straight win and second consecutive of the weekend trip in 3-0 fashion, smashing a .456 attacking percentage with 47 kills on 79 total attack attempts. Sellers and Moldovan led the Wittenberg offense with double-digit kills, with Sellers tallying 11 kills and Moldovan recording a team-high 12 kills with a .857 attacking percentage.  Brock had a successful day at the net, converting on seven of 10 attack attempts with a solo block and block assist for the Tigers. Wittenberg recorded a .375 in the first set of action in their matchup against Adrian, placing 14 kills on 24 attack attempts with just five errors. Wittenberg played a flawless second set with a .778 attacking percentage converting for 21 of 27 attempts without committing an error. The Tiger's held on for another third set win, hitting a .214 attacking percentage with 12 kills on 28 total attacks in the final set of the weekend.
