Men's Volleyball Splits Weekend Road Trip

Dubuque, Iowa – Wittenberg University men's volleyball team traveled to Loras College for their second match in as many days. The Tiger's played a second straight five-set match to open MCVL conference action this time falling to the Hawks 3-2 [25-20, 25-27, 23-25, 25-23, 9-15]. Wittenberg's Ashton Sellers was the only Tiger to tally double-digit kills on the match with 15 hitting .182 on 33 attack attempts. Freshman Mason Moldovan tallied eight kills on 20 attempts, adding five block assists. Wittenberg finished with a .105 attacking percentage, planting 49 kills on the Loras side of the net on 143 attack attempts.

 

SET ONE

Wittenberg tallied a .031 attacking percentage in the first set, logging eight kills on 32 attack attempts. The Tiger's hung with Loras in the first set up until the home took a two-point lead at 16-14, maintaining the lead to a first set victory.

 

SET TWO

Wittenberg battled in the second set to a 27-25 win, logging a .121 attack percentage with 12 kills on 33 total attack attempts. The Tiger's took an early lead going up 8-4 riding out a four poitn Alex Losada service wave. Ross Russell would start his service wave with an ace, taking Wittenberg up 15-7. Loras would creep back in after Wittenberg was unable to close the match out at 24-20.

 

SET THREE

The Tiger's took back-to-back sets from Loras, recording their best-attacking percentage of the match at .303 with 15 kills on 33 attack attempts. The third kept things more interesting as the two sides exchanged points, until Wittenberg took a definitive three-point lead a 24-21, coming off a Loras timeout.

 

SET FOUR

Wittenberg and Loras went point for point in the fourth set. The Tiger's tallied 11 kills on 33 attack attempts for a .030 attacking percentage. Loras was able to take the advantage, landing 11 kills with only four errors in the set.

 

SET FIVE

Wittenberg would put down three kills on 12 attempts in the final set.
