Men's Volleyball Takes Down Augustana

Rock Island, Ill. – The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team opened up conference action on the road against the Viking of Augustana College, taking the match in five sets 3-2 [25-21, 13-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-10]. The Tiger's would collect 49 kills on 127 attacks for .189 attacking percentage. Ashton Sellers and Justin Luby led the offense with 15 and 13 attacks each. Sellers finished the match with a .458 attacking percentage, adding three block assists and a solo block. Luby recorded a .286 attacking percentage with two service aces and two digs in the match. Wittenberg improves to 9-6 on the season and 1-0 in MCVL action.

 

SET ONE

Wittenberg earned the first point of the match; the Tiger's took a two-point lead on the Augustana service error at 12-10. After the Vikings would take a brief lead, a kill by Deion Woodson brought the score back to 19-19. Another kill by Woodson gave Wittenberg a 22-20 lead, before hanging on for the set win.

 

SET TWO

Wittenberg hit a rough patch in the second set with a -.222 attacking percentage, recording four kills on 27 attack attempts. Sellers and Mason Moldovan provided a block assist to stop an Augustana attack.  

 

SET THREE

Wittenberg captured a large 10-5 lead early in the third set. The Tiger's would extend this out to as many as seven points, recording an attacking percentage of .296 with 12 kills and just four errors. Sellers logged five of his 15 kills in the third set. Wittenberg cruised to a comfortable win after going up 20-13.

 

SET FOUR

It was a hard-fought fourth set, as Wittenberg was trying to come from behind. The Tiger's tallied 13 kills on 32 attack attempts with seven errors for a .188 attacking percentage.

 

SET FIVE

Sellers and Isaiah Brock were attacking the net, recording the block assist for the second point of the fifth set. Wittenberg took a slight lead early, with Augustana hanging around. Sellers and Brock were back at the net again to put the Tigers up 12-9. Wittenberg recorded a .294 attacking percentage with seven kills on 17 attack attempts.
