Men's Volleyball Sweeps Road Weekend

Erie, Pa. – The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team completed their weekend sweep against the Lions of Penn. St.-Behrend. Falling in the first set 25-21, the Tigers bounced back to take the next three for the match 3-1 [25-19, 25-17, 25-19]. Wittenberg tallied 60 kills on the afternoon against 118 attack attempts for a .347 attack percentage. The Tiger's had three players log double-digit kills in the match. Ashton Sellers led the attack with 18 kills on 34 attack attempts with just four errors for a .412 attack percentage. Freshman Deion Woodson was not far behind, logging 17 kills on 29 attack attempts for a .448 attacking percentage. Justin Luby broke the double-digit kill mark with 11 on 19 attack attempts for a .421 attack percentage. Wittenberg improves to 8-6 on the season, currently riding a three-match win streak.

 

SET ONE

Wittenberg got off to a slow start, converting 25 attacks for 11 kills with seven errors for a .160 attack percentage. Wittenberg would take an early lead in the first set going up 6-3 and then 9-5 after a Penn. St.-Behrend ball handling error. Trading points back and forth, Wittenberg would lose their lead in the set and be unable to get it back.

 

SET TWO

The two sides would exchange points before Wittenberg would find their stride winning three points on the Mason Moldovan serve. The defense would force five Penn. St.-Behrend errors in the second set, allowing the Lions an attacking percentage of .185. Wittenberg would land 17 kills on 30 attack attempts with just four errors for a .433 attacking percentage in the second set.

 

SET THREE

The Tigers tallied 16 kills on 28 attack attempts, making just four errors for an attacking percentage of .429. Wittenberg allowed Penn. St.-Behrend to swing .207 in the third set. Of the 29 Lions, total attacks nine landed for kills with the host team making just three errors.

 

SET FOUR

Wittenberg put down a .343 attacking percentage in the final set, converting 35 total attacks for 16 kills with just four errors. The Tiger's would limit the host team to a .069 attacking percentage, allowing just six attacks to land for kills of the 29 total attempts.
