Power Weekend Day One

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's volleyball team hosted the first day of their annual Power Weekend. The two-day event kicked off as the Tigers played host to the Lions of Penn. St.-Altoona in their first match of the day, Wittenberg took the first match 3-0 [25-16, 25-19, 25-23]. Welcoming six teams to Pam Evans Smith Arena for the eight-match event. Wittenberg returned to the court for the late match on Friday night to battle the Sabres of Marian University, falling 3-0 [25-22,25-16,25-20]. After the split on the day, Wittenberg is back at .500 on the season sitting at 5-5 through their first 10 matches.

 

MATCH ONE vs. Penn. St.-Altoona

Wittenberg quickly took the first set from the Lions 25-16. On their way to a first set victory, the Tigers recorded a .538 attacking percentage recording 15 kills on 26 attack attempts with just one error. The Tigers held Altoona to a .103 attacking percentage through the first set, as Wittenberg forced six errors. Sweeping the Lions in straight sets, the Tigers would go on to collect attacking percent of .324 and .237, while holding the Lions of Penn. St.-Altoona below a .150 mark in all three sets. Justin Luby would lead the attack, converting 24 total attack attempts for 12 kills with just three errors for a .375 attacking percentage. Freshman Deion Woodson recorded the next highest attacking percentage in the match finishing at .444. Woodson saw 10 of his 18 attempts land for kills with just two errors. Isaiah Brock and Ashton Sellers would each finish with nine kills apiece in the first match against the Lions. Ross Russell recorded 44 of the teams 46 assists. Troy Boucher provided 16 digs.

 

MATCH TWO vs. Marian (Wis.)

The Tigers struggled to find their footing against Marian (Wis.), the Tigers managed just 29 kills on 100 attacks for the match. Deion Woodson and Mason Moldovan each led the attack with eight. Sellers landed six kills for Wittenberg, as Moldovan would finish with the highest attacking percentage in the match for the Tigers at .400. Russell provided 21 assists, with Boucher coming in for 14 digs and three assists of his own.
