Wittenberg Men's Volleyball Sweeps Weekend At Hiram

Hiram, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's volleyball team traveled to Hiram College over the weekend. The Tigers won their first match on Friday night, taking down the Cardinals of St. John Fisher in straight sets [25-20, 26-24, 25-21]. Wittenberg returned to action on Saturday morning, working through the Lions of Penn. St.-Behrend in four sets [25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20]. The Tigers came back for a battle with the host Terriers of Hiram College, Wittenberg would take their second match of the day [25-21, 25-13, 25-12]. Over their final two matches on Saturday, Wittenberg posted attacking percentages of .355 against the Lions and .372 against Hiram. Winning their last three sets 9-1, Wittenberg has moved to 4-4 on the season.

 

MATCH ONE vs. Penn. St. -Behrend

Wittenberg was led by Deion Woodson and Isaiah Brock in the first match. Woodson tallied a team-high 17 kills on 29 attack attempts, leading to a .448 attack percentage. Followed close behind was Brock with 14 kills on 21 attack attempts with just two errors for a .571 attacking percentage. Brock also led the stopping effort on the frontline six block assists and two solo blocks. Wittenberg logged over a .300 attacking percentage in three of four sets, their most efficient play coming right out of the gate with a .464 mark. The Tiger's converted for 17 kills on 28 total attacks with just four errors in the first set. Ross Russell contributed on 50 of the Tiger's 57 assists in the match. Russell added three kills and three block assists against the Lions. Mason Moldovan provided nine kills on 17 attack attempts, with two block assists and two solo blocks each added.

 

MATCH TWO vs. Hiram

Wittenberg didn't miss a beat stepping into game two, posting a .370 attacking percentage in the first set against the Terriers. The Tigers were led by Ashton Sellers on the offensive attack posting nine kills on 15 attempts for a .467 attack percentage. Woodson was close behind hammering home eight kills on 11 attempts, committing just one error, adding two aces and a block assist. Brock and Moldovan finished with six kills each against the Terriers. Moldovan posted his highest attacking percentage of the season at .857 without committing an error in seven attack attempts through the match. The Tigers would limit the mistakes to just 13 errors on the match. Wittenberg would reach a .419 attacking percentage in the second set, holding the Terroirs to just 13 points in the second set and 12 points before sealing the win.
