Men's Volleyball Edges Out Benedictine in Five Sets

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg men's volleyball remained red-hot in MCVL play on Friday night. The Tigers needed five sets to dispose of the Eagles from Benedictine after dropping the first two sets, but at the end of the day, the young team finished the job. Wittenberg and Benedictine battled late into the night to the tune of 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 30-28 and 15-10. Wittenberg played to a raucous crowd inside the gym at Emmanuel Christian High School, as Ashton Sellers and Dylan Kolovitz each recorded double-digit kills on the night.

 MATCH NOTES
  • Despite the slow start, Wittenberg turned it on offensively in set three, slugging .250 as a team in the 25-21 win.
  • Sellers recorded two decisive aces in set three, that turned the tables for the Tigers on their way to the five set victory.
  • Defensively, Wittenberg adjusted nicely to the Benedictine attack that had their way with the Tigers in the first two sets.
  • Teddy Hesterman recorded 18 digs for Wittenberg, while Noah Wissel chipped in 13 in a defense that silenced the Eagles in set four, recording 12 errors on attack in the third set for a percentage of .000.
  • Isaiah Brock was a force to be reckoned with in the middle for the Tigers, as the sophomore recorded eight total blocks in the match.
  • Sellers and Kolovitz combined for 28 kills on the day, as the Tigers produced 58 as a team.

FROM THE BENCH

  • "Matches like this are more than just wins on a schedule.  Battling from down 0-2 to take the match 3-2 unites a team and cements belief in each other.  Benedictine made some incredible defensive plays, literally running into walls to make saves.  As we grow as a team, we will strive to match that level of relentlessness on defense," said Coach Labrador.

UP NEXT

  • Wittenberg is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00PM against Adrian College at Emmanuel Christian High School in Springfield, Ohio.
