Tigers Finish Off Weekend Road-Trip with MCVL Loss to Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin—Wittenberg men's volleyball dropped its second MCVL match in as many tries Saturday afternoon. The Tiger's played on back-to-back nights in Wisconsin, traveling to Marian University Saturday afternoon after opening up conference play against Lakeland College the night before. Wittenberg struggled hitting for the second straight match, producing a .140 kill-percentage in the 3-1 loss. The loss moves the Tigers to 6-2 on the season and 0-2 in MCVL play.

 

MATCH NOTES

  • Carter Schmidt (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) had a career night for the Tigers, collecting ten kills on the night, a career high.
  • Schmidt came up big all night for Wittenberg's offense, but his most powerful swing came as he recorded the final point in the Tiger's third set victory to keep their match hopes alive.
  • Joel Sotos (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) stayed true to form in the loss, coming up big with 11 kills and five digs.
  • Wittenberg fought back hard in all sets, keeping close in the fourth set as the score moved to 14-12, before allowing Marian to go on a 11-2 run to finish out the set and match.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • Ross Russell (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) set the Tiger offense all night with 30 assists.
  • Dylan Kolovitz (Chicago, Illinois/St. Patrick) led Wittenberg in the loss with seven digs.
  • As a collective, Wittenberg finished the match with 33 digs.
