Wittenberg University Vice President and Athletic Director, Dr. Gary Williams, has announced a staffing structure change for the cross country and track & field programs, effective February 1, 2019.

Craig Penney, who arrived in 2006, has stepped down from his position as head cross country coach. Penney will transition into an assistant coaching position for both programs, while also assuming meet management responsibilities for Wittenberg for both cross country and indoor and outdoor track meets, beginning in the fall of 2019.

“Craig has been a staple of the men’s and women’s cross country and track programs and we are extremely grateful for his leadership and service to both Wittenberg and the sport,” said Williams.

Paris Hilliard is assuming the responsibility as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs. Paris joined Wittenberg in 2011 as an assistant coach and took over as the head track & field coach in 2015. Prior to Wittenberg, Hilliard spent a year on the staff at his alma mater, Heidelberg University.

“Thank you to Paris for his willingness to accept this assignment and for his continued dedication and commitment to our student-athletes who compete in both programs,” stated Williams.
