Atlanta, Georgia – The Wittenberg University Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams made the trek down south over the weekend for the annual Emory Invitational, held at the Woodruff P.E. Center Track on the campus of Emory University. Over the course of the two days of competition, the men's team scored 16 points to finish in a tie for 18th out of 27 teams, while the women's squad totaled 14 points to finish in a tie for 22nd out of 30 total teams. Tennessee Wesleyan won the men's team title with 78 points, while host Emory won the women's title with 114 points.

The throwers accounted for 14 of the 16 points scored by the men's team, led by senior D'Anthony Dorsey finishing fifth overall in the shot put competition with a toss of 13.62 meters. Junior Jonathan Seay also picked up points in the shot put after finishing eighth overall with a distance of 12.91 meters. Seay and Dorsey than finished sixth-seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw competition as Seay notched a toss of 44.91 meters and Dorsey sent the implement out to 44.78 meters. Sophomore Zach Guyer also picked up points in a throwing event as he finished sixth overall in the javelin with a heave of 44.52 meters. Finally, the Tigers grabbed their final two points in the 4x400-meter relay as the team of sophomore David Haake, senior Kyle Farnbauch, sophomore Austyn Albanese and freshman Joshua Finkeldey finished seventh out of 25 teams with a time of 3:24.76.

On the women' side, three separate athletes notched top-eight finishes for the Tigers at the Emory Invitational, highlighted by a pair of fifth-place showings from junior Alexis Gray and sophomore Marteana Newton. Gray, who entered the weekend with the NCAC's top time to date in the 800-meter run at 2:24.48, shaved nearly six seconds off of that time by finishing fifth out of 59 runners at the Emory Invitational with a time of 2:18.47. Her time of 2:18.47 also ranks as the ninth-fastest time logged by an athlete in that event this season across the entire nation in Div. III. Newton than stepped into the starting blocks and went sub one-minute in the 400-meter dash after crossing the line fifth overall in 59.05, making her the only runner to date in the NCAC to post a sub-minute time in the event this season. Finally, sophomore Hannah Eley also scored three points for the Tigers in the hammer throw competition with a season-best toss of 43.78 meters.

Wittenberg will stay local next weekend as the Tigers make the short trip down route 72 to Cedarville, Ohio, for the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open at Cedarville University.
