Wittenberg Track & Field Has Record Day At DePauw Invitational

Greencastle, Ind. – The Wittenberg University track and field team took part in the DePauw University Indoor Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men's side claimed third place with 77 points earned on the day, while the women's team took second place with 88 points. It was a big step forward for Wittenberg track and field, with many athletes logging personal and season-best marks. There were also a few new school records set on the road at DePauw.

Junior Kenny Mayes earned an individual first-place finish in the 600m run on his way to setting a new Wittenberg school record, crossing the line in a time of 1:24.82. Wittenberg took the top two spots in the 600m, as senior Tyler Gittins stopped the clock in a time of 1:29.42. Gittins would be back to take out his own record in the 60m hurdles, earning a second-place finish in a time of 8.43. Sophomore Tyra Barnes won the 200m dash in a time of 26.67. Barnes would go on to take third place in the 60m dash, crossing the line in a time of 8.20. Tiarra Avant (28.34) and Marteana Newton (28.53) would push each other across the line, as Wittenberg would take the fifth and sixth spots in the 200m dash as well. Newton added a second-place finish in the 400m dash, stopping the clock in a time of 1:01.65. Alexis Gray (1:41.37), Anna Lebold (1:44.92), and Cymone Horton (1:54.85) took three of the top four spots in the 600m run. Olivia Stevens claimed third-place in the 60m hurdles with a final time of 9.58.

D'Anthony Dorsey set a new record in the shot-put event with a heave of 13.86m, landing him in first-place on the day. Earning a fifth-place finish in the weight throw on the women's side, freshman Hannah Eley set a new Wittenberg record in the event with a mark of 14.47m.

Wittenberg and Dorsey followed up with a third-place showing in the weight throw with a toss of 15.01m. Followed close behind by Curtis Quimby with a toss of 14.28m in the weight throw for a fifth-place finish.

Brandon Johnson ran a 7.18 60m dash for a fourth-place finish. The Tiger's took the seventh and eighth spot in the 200m dash, with Johnson crossing the line in a time of 23.55 and Ryan Hale close behind at 23.71.  Zach Guyer earned fourth-place in the long jump competition leaping a distance of 6.12m. Senior Tomas Pyle earned a sixth-place finish in the triple jump event with a distance of 11.05m. Tay Morton posted a high jump mark of 1.80m for an eighth-place finish. Wittenberg earned back-to-back finishes in the triple jump with Nia Gilbert (9.13m) and Alissa Spears (8.79m) taking third and fourth place. Spears followed up with a seventh-place finish in the long jump covering a distance of 4.44m.
