Wallace, Yates Cap Season At NCAA Division III Championships

Springfield, Ohio – Junior Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) and sophomore Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) represented Wittenberg University well in the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Both made their first appearance in a collegiate national championship, and Wallace finished 16th in the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday and Yates took 19th in the 400-meter dash on Friday.

Yates overcame injuries during the indoor season to set school and meet records in the 400-meter dash at the All-Ohio Championships with a time of 47.90 He came into the national meet ranked 14th in the 20-runner field, but he was hampered again by the injury en route to a time of 50.28 in the NCAA meet.

Wallace entered the competition ranked 13th in the 400-meter hurdles after posting a season-best time of 53.19 at Ohio Wesleyan’s Ron Althoff Invitational on May 12. He crossed the finish line in 54.06 at the NCAA meet.
