Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University men's track and field standout Tim Uher, class of 2010 from Granville, Ohio, has been recognized for the combination of his athletic and academic accomplishments with first-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.
It is the first such academic award in Uher's collegiate career. The district awards are a result of online voting conducted recently by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Only student-athletes who make the first team in district voting can be considered for Academic All-America awards.
Uher earned a total of five varsity letters in two sports at Wittenberg - four in track and field and one as a defensive back on the football team. It was on the track where Uher made the most significant impression, capping his career with team Most Valuable Player honors in 2010 after scoring points in seven different events between the 2010 indoor and outdoor North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship events.
Uher displayed his athleticism and versatility in 2010 as he took first place in the NCAC decathlon (outdoor) after finishing second in the pentathlon (indoor). For his career, Uher claimed three All-NCAC designations and scored more than 40 points in conference championship competitions.
In the classroom, Uher was even more spectacular, finishing his academic career with a 3.91 grade point average while majoring in physics and minoring in mathematics. He was awarded multiple scholarships during his Wittenberg career, and he was inducted into numerous honoraries, including the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa.
In addition, Uher made the most of an independent study opportunity to work on particle accelerator construction, and he served as a teacher's assistant, a tutor and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity while at Wittenberg.
