Trinka posts 2-0 mark as Men's Tennis falls 6-3 to Ohio Wesleyan

DAYTON — Junior Mark Trinka (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) posted a 2-0 mark to lead the Wittenberg men's tennis team in a 6-3 loss to Ohio Wesleyan in an indoor match on Wednesday in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (1-16 overall, 0-5 NCAC), Ohio Wesleyan (7-7 overall, 1-4 NCAC)

  • Wittenberg is now 33-26 all-time against Ohio Wesleyan.

The Match

  • Trinka helped Wittenberg take two of the three doubles courts to open the match. He paired with freshman Sven Van den Eerenbeemt (S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands/Gymnasium Beekvliet) to win 8-5 at No. 2.
  • Junior Ethan Libby (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and freshman Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) won 8-7(7-5) at No. 1 singles.
  • Freshmen Andrew Garofoli (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and Henry Smith-Heston (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) fell 5-8 at No. 3 doubles.
  • Trinka was the lone Tiger to win in singles play, taking a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
  • Libby fell 3-6, 3-6 at No. 1, Bennett fell 4-6, 4-6 at No. 3, Garofoli fell 5-7, 0-6 at No. 4, Van den Eerenbeemt fell 6-7(6-8), 4-6 at No. 5, and Smith-Heston fell 1-6, 2-6 at No. 6.
