Men's Tennis closes week with defeats to Wabash, DePauw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio & GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg men's tennis team closed the week with a 9-0 loss to Wabash on Saturday and 8-1 defeat at DePauw on Sunday in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (1-15 overall, 0-4 NCAC), Wabash (11-7 overall, 3-1 NCAC), DePauw (12-6 overall, 5-0 NCAC)
  • Venue: Saturday - Albright Tennis Complex - Springfield, Ohio; Sunday - Blackstock Courts - Greencastle, Ind.
  • Wittenberg is now 19-13 all-time against Wabash and 0-18 all-time against DePauw.

Saturday's Match - Wabash 9, Wittenberg 0

  • In doubles play, junior Ethan Libby (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and freshman Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) fell 4-8 at No. 1, junior Mark Trinka (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and freshman Sven Van den Eerenbeemt (S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands/Gymnasium Beekvliet) fell 2-8 at No. 2, and freshmen Andrew Garofoli (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and Henry Smith-Heston (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) fell 1-8 at No. 3.
  • Libby played a tight match at No. 1 singles, as they split the first two sets, both of which required tiebreakers. He fell 6-7(0), 7-6(5), 7-10.
  • In the remaining singles matches, Trinka fell 1-6, 5-7 at No. 2, Bennett fell 1-6, 2-6 at No. 3, Garofoli fell 2-6, 1-6 at No. 4, Van den Eerenbeemt fell 1-6, 2-6 at No. 5, and Smith-Heston fell 0-6, 1-6 at No. 6.

Sunday's Match - DePauw 8, Wittenberg 1

  • Wittenberg scored its lone point of the match with a victory at No. 2 doubles. Trinka and Van den Eerenbeemt won 8-6.
  • In the remaining doubles matches, Libby and Bennett fell 6-8 at No. 1, and Garofoli and Smith-Heston fell 2-8 at No. 3.
  • In singles play, Libby fell 1-6, 0-6 at No. 1, Trinka fell 2-6, 1-6 at No. 2, Bennett fell 2-6, 0-6 at No. 3, Garofoli fell 0-6, 1-6 at No. 4, Van den Eerenbeemt fell 0-6, 2-6 at No. 5, and Smith-Heston fell 2-6, 1-6 at No. 6.
