Men's Tennis falls 5-3 in tight battle at Anderson (Ind.)

PENDLETON, Ind. — The Wittenberg men's tennis team fell 5-3 in a tight battle at Anderson (Ind.) on Sunday to close out non-conference play.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (1-11 overall), Anderson (8-5 overall)
  • Venue: Community Sport and Wellness Center - Pendleton, Ind.
  • Sunday marked the first all-time meeting between Wittenberg and Anderson.

The Match

  • Wittenberg opened by taking one of the three doubles courts, as junior Ethan Libby (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and senior Kyle Fout (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) won 8-6 at No. 1.
  • Junior Mark Trinka (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and freshman Henry Smith-Heston (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) fell 6-8 at No. 2 doubles, and freshmen Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) and Sven Van den Eerenbeemt (S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands/Gymnasium Beekvliet) fell 3-8 at No. 3.
  • Libby and Fout also won their singles matches. Libby won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1, and Fout won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
  • Bennett fell 3-6, 3-6 at No. 4 singles, freshman Andrew Garofoli (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) fell 2-6, 4-6 at No. 5, and Van den Eerenbeemt fell 1-6, 1-6 at No. 6.
  • Trinka's match at No. 2 singles did not finish after he took the opening set 7-6(2).
