Men's Tennis falls 6-3 to Hanover in final match before spring break

DAYTON — The Wittenberg men's tennis team fell 6-3 to Hanover on Friday in their match before heading to Florida for their spring break schedule.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (1-6 overall), Hanover (3-0 overall)
  • Venue: Five Seasons Sports Club - Dayton, Ohio
  • Wittenberg is now 0-3 all-time against Hanover.

The Match

  • Wittenberg opened by winning one of three doubles courts.
  • Junior Mark Trinka (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and freshman Henry Smith-Heston (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
  • The other two doubles courts were tight matches. Junior Ethan Libby (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and senior Kyle Fout (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) fell 6-8 at No. 1 doubles, and freshmen Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) and Sven Van den Eerenbeemt (S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands/Gymnasium Beekvliet) fell 6-8 at No. 3.
  • The Tigers then took two of the six singles courts.
  • Libby won 7-5, 7-6(5) at No. 1 singles.
  • Fout won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
  • Trinka fell 2-6, 7-5, 4-6 at No. 2 singles, Bennett fell 0-6, 5-7 at No. 4, freshman Andrew Garofoli (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) fell 4-6, 0-6 at No. 5 and Van den Eerenbeemt fell 4-6, 3-6 at No. 6.
