Tigers Sweep Battling Bishops In NCAC Home Opener

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg men's tennis team returned to the Albright Tennis Complex for their NCAC home opener, hosting the Battling Bishops from Ohio Wesleyan University. The Tigers swept the Battling Bishops on all courts, securing the 9-0 win. Wittenberg got started with a clean sweep on doubles courts, highlighted by an electrifying 8-4 win from the duo of Ethan Libby and Jake Stockhausen. Roy Jensen and Joe Patton hung a bagel on their opponents from Ohio Wesleyan with the 8-0 win on the third doubles court. The pairing of Brayden Kopp and John DeVito provided an enthusiastic 8-4 win on the first court over the Battling Bishops to get the day started.

Mark Trinka made quick work of his opponent from OWU with the 6-0, 6-0 straight set win on the fifth singles court. The veteran Tiger, Patton dropped just two sets on the third singles court with a 6-2, 6-0 win.  DeVito rode the momentum from an exciting double win into a 6-4, 6-0 second singles win for the Tigers. Kopp earned the 7-5 first set victory at the first singles spot, before cruising to the 6-3 straight set win. Stockhausen had a battle on the fourth singles court, going three sets, after trading the first two 6-4, 4-6. Stockhausen secured the sweep of the day for the Tigers with a 6-4 third set win.
