Tigers Sweep Wabash In NCAC Opener

Crawfordsville, IN – The Wittenberg men's tennis team secured two important North Coast Athletic Conference wins on Saturday afternoon over the Wabash Little Giants. The Tigers took the first match by way of an 8-3 decision, sweeping the doubles competition before taking five of six singles courts. Wittenberg carried their momentum into the second match of the afternoon with another clean sweep in doubles and playing to the decision with two singles court wins for the Tigers.

 The doubles pairing of Jake Stockhausen and John DeVito won both of their doubles matches, taking match one from Wabash 8-2 and moving on to secure the second match 8-3. Kyle Fout and Guille Del Rio Gonzalez cruised to a first match win at 8-1, the Wittenberg pairing added their second win of the day at 8-3. Switching up the third doubles between the first and second matches, the duo of Joe Patton and Hayden Durant earned the Red and White an 8-3 win in match one. In match two, Patton and Nathan Baulch paired up to take down the Little Giants 8-4.

On the singles court, DeVito picked up a (6-0, 6-4) win over the Little Giants in match one, before his second match was unfinished. Stockhausen eased to a (6-1, 6-1) win in his first match on the singles court of the afternoon. Gonzalez went 2-0 for the Red and White, cruising to a (6-0, 6-1) win on the third court. Gonzalez kept the momentum rolling into the second match, taking down his Wabash opponent, (6-1, 6-0). Patton won his first match on the singles court of the day, (6-0, 6-0). Baulch secured the second math victory for the Tigers, ending his match over the Little Giants at (6-2, 6-2).

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 10, traveling to Ohio Wesleyan for a doubleheader with the Battling Bishops.
