Tigers Fall Against Big Red In NCAC Tourney Opener

Indianapolis, Indiana – The seventh-seeded Wittenberg University Men's Tennis team was topped by second-seeded Denison by a 5-1 margin on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2019 NCAC Tennis Tournament at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Entering the tournament as the seventh seed, the Tigers will now compete in the seventh-place match against eighth-seeded Wabash tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at North Central H.S.

Who Stood Out

The Tigers kept the match in reach after doubles play as they only trailed the Big Red by a 2-1 margin, but DU quickly reeled off three-straight victories in singles action to secure the 5-1 victory over Wittenberg.

In doubles action, the senior duo of Martin Mora and Luke Minard picked up a marquee win in the top flight as they handed the Denison duo of Tim Cianciola and Thai Mitchell an 8-5 loss. Doubles play wrapped up with senior Timmy McNulty and freshman Gavin Tay dropping an 8-2 decision in the second flight and the duo of senior Kieran Thomas and freshman Joe Patton losing by the same scoreline in the third flight.

The match ultimately came to a close in singles action with Mora dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Cianciola in the top flight, Patton suffering a 6-3, 6-3 loss against Kevin Brown at the third flight and McNulty suffering a 6-0, 6-1 loss against Thai at the fourth flight.
