Dayton, Ohio – The Wittenberg University men's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season after cruising to a 9-0 win over Shawnee State on Saturday afternoon at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Dayton.  

Who Stood Out

The Tigers opened the match with a clean sweep of the doubles matches, highlighted by senior Luke Minard making his return to the lineup from an injury by teaming with classmate Kieren Thomas for an 8-0 win in the third flight. Seniors Martin Mora and Timmy McNulty added an 8-1 win in the top flight, while the freshmen combo of Gavin Tay and Joe Patton logged an 8-3 win in the third flight.

In singles action, Mora improved to 5-0 on the year in the top flight with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win over Jacob Freeland in the top flight. Patton also posted a perfect scoreline of 6-0, 6-0 in the second flight, while McNulty added a 6-4, 6-4 in the third position against Zack Fox.

In the bottom half of the singles lineup, Tay notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles over Carter Nolte, Thomas went 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth flight against Niko Richards, with sophomore Nathan Baulch closing out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Samual Hall in the sixth position.

The Tigers will return to action next Friday, kicking off their Spring Break southern swing with a 3:00 p.m. match at Transylvania, before taking on Johnson University (TN) on March 2nd and Sewanee (TN) on March 4th.
