Tipp City, Ohio – Freshman Gavin Tay picked up the match clinching point in the third singles position to lift the Wittenberg University Men's Tennis team to a 5-4 win over Centre College on Sunday afternoon at the Schroeder Tennis Center. The win pushes the Tigers record to 3-1 on the young season.

Who Stood Out

Tay, who also teamed with classmate Joe Patton for an 8-4 victory in the third doubles flight against the Colonels, won the first set in singles action against Adam Slone by a 6-2 margin, before dropping a 6-3 decision in the second set. With not only his individual match on the line, but also the final team decision, Tay stepped up to the challenge and posted a convincing 6-0 win over Slone in the decisive third set to clinch the team win for the Tigers.

Seniors Martin Mora and Timmy McNulty joined Tay as double winners for the Tigers in the match. The duo first joined together for an 8-6 win in the top doubles flight against Matthew Bulow and Arpit Maini. Mora then rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the top singles flight against Maini, while McNulty picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win of his own in the fifth singles flight against Ben Hadlock.
