Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 6-3 win over Thomas More on Thursday afternoon at the Albright Tennis Complex. The win pushes the Tigers overall record to 2-0 on the young season after they also picked up a 5-3 win over Midway last Friday (9/14) in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Who Stood Out

The top four players in the Wittenberg lineup were all double winners in the match, including seniors Martin Mora and Luke Minard, and the freshman duo of Gavin Tay and Joe Patton.

Mora and Minard opened the match with an 8-2 win in the top doubles flight against Jared Haught and Derrick Kwok, while Tay and Patton also logged an 8-2 win in second doubles against Sheldon Preisler and Ethan Caruso.

In singles action, Tay topped Caruso by a 6-1, 6-2 margin in the second flight, Minard rolled past Jeff Schenk, 6-0, 6-4, in the third flight, and Patton posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Haught in the fourth position. Mora was also credited with a win in the top flight after Derrick Kwok was forced to retire due to an injury.

The Tigers will now return to action next week when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for the annual Fall ITA Tournament, contested on the campus of Washington (MO), September 27-30.
