Tigers Open Season With 7-2 Win At Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -The Wittenberg Tigers opened the 2015-16 season with a 7-2 road win over Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein.

The Tigers featured five new players in the starting lineup, and they produced, accounting for four of the Tigers' five singles wins and contributing to both doubles victories.

The match started with two wins in three doubles matches as freshman Matt Arroyo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) teamed with senior Dennis Gleason (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Charles) to win at No. 2 and freshman Timmy McNulty (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) teamed with junior Akbar Tiwana (Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison) to win at No. 3. Both matches were won by 8-6 scores.

In singles, the Tigers locked up the match with five straight-set victories. Sophomore Martin Mora (Quito, Ecuador), Arroyo, freshman Luke Minard (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), McNulty and freshman Caleb Astwood (Sussex, NJ/Laurel Springs) all claimed singles wins.

The Tigers open the home portion of their 2015-16 schedule against Heidelberg at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.
