Tigers Reach 21 Different Finals Spots in NCAC Championships

Granville, OH -- Over the course of four days, the Wittenberg Tigers competed in the NCAC Swim and Dive Championship at Denison University where they had 18 final heat appearances from 11 different Tigers. The highest finisher in Red and White was senior Emma Hellmann who won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dive events with scores of 460.4 for the 1M and 503.5 for the 3M. In the pool with the highest individual finish was sophomore Zach Parkman who landed in the A final heat finishing 9th overall with a time of 1:54.37 in the 200 yard butterfly, placing him third in the Wittenberg Swim and Dive record book. The Tigers had a total of nine top 10 finishes in the conference championships. Final times and places are listed below:

  • Junior Bridget Logan had herself a meet with three top 25 finishes. She placed 17 in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:05.72, 18 in the 50-yard free, clocking 25.04 seconds, and 21 in the 100-yard free at 55.66 seconds
  • In the 200-yard backstroke, senior Sophia Spriggs hit a time of 2:26.10 and junior Michelle Murray came in at 2:33.65. On the men's side freshman Cody Schimmel finished his race with a time of 2:13.72
  • For senior Anthony Petruzzi, he finished his season with two final appearances. In the 200-yard breaststroke he came in at 2:19.37 and in the 200-yard IM he finished 22nd place with a time of 2:04.81
  • Leaving his mark on the championship, Parkman not only finished top 10 in the 200 fly, he also finished 12th in the 500 free clocking 4:50.69 and 14th in the 100 fly at a time of 52.26, tying him for 6th in the Witt record book
  • Also finishing in the 500 free was freshman Quaid O'Brien at a time of 5:08.96. O'Brien also  finished top 20 in the 1650 free at a time of 17:58.29
  • Senior Abby Dunasky and sophomore Mackenzie Schuld both finished 17th and 14th in the 500 free. Schuld came in with a time of 5:18.51 with Dunasky at a time of 5:32.38. Dunasky also claimed 9th in the 1650 free at 18:54. Both athletes also competed in the 400 IM, Schuld came in at 4:56.58 while Dunasky came in at 5:09.59
  • Freshman Parker Roach competed three different events at the championship. Coming in just ahead of Petruzzi in the next lane over, Roach took 21st in the 200 IM at a time of 2:04.52. in the 100 breaststroke he finished with a time of 1:04.28 and in the 200 free he clocked 1:53.46

Emma Hellmann will be heading to the swim and dive regionals at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan competing in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
