NCAC Swimming and Diving Championship Central

GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Wittenberg Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams are underway at Denison University for the NCAC Swimming and Diving championships. After one day of competition, the Wittenberg Tiger's have already made history. Junior Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Illinois/Waterloo) recorded a new Wittenberg record in the women's 200IM Prelims with a time of 2:09.29, good enough for 11th.

From the men's side, Steve Stuthers, (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) highlighted Wittenberg's day one fourth-place point total while recording a time of 1:55.0 in the 200 IM Prelims.

2/11/16 Highlights

  • Sophomore Katie Black (Fort Wayne, Indiana/Homestead) qualified in the women's 1-meter diving competition earlier today, totaling 387.75 points.
  • Black took home 2nd place in the 1-meter diving finals Thursday evening. The sophomore earned All-Conference honors as well as NCAA D3 B-Cut honors with a finals total of 412.90.
  • Stuthers continued his strong championship week with a 15th place finish in the 200 IM Finals with a time of 1:55.75.
  • Schulz followed up her historic day with a 15th place finish of her own in the 200 IM, recording a finals time of 2:10.04.
  • Dani Lacy (Louisville, Kentucky/Louisville Collegiate School) kept the Tiger's strong day going as the senior finished 11th in the 50 yard-freestyle Thursday night, recording a  finals time of 24.38. 
  • In the 500 yard-freestyle, freshman Sam Bott (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling) impresed in his first NCAC Championship, finishing 20th overall in a deep field of competition, recording a finals time of 4:45.27

2/12/16 Highlights

  • Suthers continued his imprsessive Championship week with an 8th place finish in the 100 yard-backstroke prelims. Suther's time of 52.50 qualifies him for the finals, later on tonight at 6:30pm.
  • Schulz also continued to stay true to form, finishing 5th in the 100 yard-breaststroke prelims with a time 1:04.81 which landed the junior National Provisional Standard status, NCAA B-Cut.
  • The Women's 200 yard-medley relay team of Schulz, Madeline Kraft (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), Julia Valentine (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), and Lacy took home a fourth place finish in the finals, posting a time of 1:47.57.
  • In the men's 400-IM Finals, Bott continued his strong campaign, taking home an 11th place finish with a finasl time of 4:14.66.
  • Rounding out Wittenberg's day, Willie Smith (Goldsboro, North Carolina/Eastern Wayne) finished 10th in the 1-M diving prelims, posting 309.40 points in the freshman's first ever NCAC Championships.

2/13/16 Highlights

  • Bott continued his impressive week with a ninth place finish in the men's 1650 finals with a time of 16:30.76.
  • Stuthers kept up his impressive championship slate with a fourth place finish in the men's 200 yard backstroke, with a finals time of 1:53.31, just missing a NCAA "B" cut.
  • Lacy also kept up her impressive weekend, finishing 12th in the 100-yard freestyle finals, recording a time of 53.91.
  • Kyle Smith (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) got on the board for the Tigers, taking home 15th place honors in the men's 200 yard-breaststroke with a time of 2:15.15
  • Kraft stayed strong all week, this time finishing 10th in the 200 yard-backstroke, at 2:27.84.
  • Sam Petruzzi (Medina, Ohio/Medina) impressed Saturday evening, finishing in eighth place in the 200 yard-butterfly finals. The sophomore recorded a finals time of 2:11.81.
  • All NCAC Diver Katie Black finished in 3rd place in the 3-meter diving finals Saturday night, narrowly missing an NCAA"B" cut distinction.
  • Rounding out Wittenberg's tournament was the 400 yard-freestyle relay team of Emalie Taylor (Ann Arbor, Michigan/Dexter), Emily Faas (Mason, Ohio/Mason), Ericha Precht (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon), and Lacy, with a finals time of 3:35.50, good enough for fourth place.
