Tigers Gain Split At Centre As Women Win But Men Lose

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their preparation for the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships next month with a challenging road trip to Centre, which ended with a split decision.

The Tiger women improved to 6-2 on the 2014-15 dual meet season with a 127.5-95.5 victory. However, the Tiger men dropped a 139-85 decision to fall to 6-2 in duals.

The women's competition started well for the Tigers as sophomore Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo), junior Madeline Kraft (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), freshman Julia Valentine (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Maggie Simmons (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Individual victories were provided by freshman Nicole McCollum (Fort Myers, Fla./Estero) in the 1000-yard freestyle, Valentine in the 100-yard breaststroke, Schulz in the 100-yard backstroke and junior Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

McCollum added a second in the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Emalie Taylor (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) took second in the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Kaitlyn Black (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was runner-up in the 1-meter diving, Valentine touched second in the 100-yard butterfly and Kraft placed second in 100-yard backstroke.

On the men's side, junior Stephen Stuthers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), senior AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming), senior James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) and senior Jared Crum (Galveston, Ind./Lewis Cass) kicked things off with a second in the 200-yard relay. Burt added a win in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 500-yard freestyle, Stuthers chipped in with a first in the 200-yard Individual Medley and second in the 100-yard backstroke and Dumstorf placed second in the 100-yard freestyle and touched the wall first in 100-yard breaststroke.

Freshman Andrew Tengen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) rounded things out with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
