Tigers Open 2014-15 Season With Fine Finish At Relay Meet

GAMBIER/GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the 2014-15 season by finishing fourth in the women's competition and fifth in the men's competition at a Relay Meet hosted by Kenyon and Denison.

Swimming relays were hosted by Kenyon, while the divers did their work at Denison. The field included eight teams, with seven of them representing the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Ohio Athletic Conference powerhouse Ohio Northern rounded out the field.

In the pool at Kenyon, Head Coach Natalie Koukis was particularly pleased with the performance of the breaststroke relays. On the men's side, senior James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier), sophomore Jacob Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North), freshman Kyle Smith (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and senior AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) touched the wall in fourth place with a time of 1:53.14. For the women, freshman Julia Valentine (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), junior Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield), sophomore Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) and junior Madeline Kraft (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) took fourth place with a time of 2:11.50.

On the diving boards at Denison, freshman Kaitlyn Black (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) turned in a solid performance, finishing fourth with a score of 173.10 in the one-meter and fourth with a score of 188.60 on the three-meter. Senior Eric Roberts (Willits, Calif./Willits) teamed with senior Thomas Chuna (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) to finish sixth in the three-meter and fifth in the one-meter.
