Tiger Teams Cruise Past Hiram By Wide Margins

HIRAM, Ohio - A whirlwind week that started with training and a meet against Allegheny in Florida and included a home dual meet against national powerhouse Denison concluded with a dominating performance against Hiram.

The Tiger men defeated the Terriers by a 225-53 margin, while the Tiger women beat Hiram 227-60. Wittenberg now stands 3-6 on the men's side and 6-3 on the women's with two dual meets remaining in the 2013-14 season.

A Wittenberg swimmer or diver captured first place in each of the 16 women's events in the meet, while the Tiger men were winners in 15 of the 16 events.

For the women, first-place finishes were recorded by sophomore Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) in the 800 freestyle, freshman Emalie Taylor (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) in the 100 and 200 freestyle events, freshman Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Iowa/Waterloo) in the 50 backstroke, senior Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, freshman Emily Faas (Mason, Ohio/Mason) in the 100 butterfly, sophomore Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) in the 50 and 400 freestyle events, freshman Kate Gustafson (West Harford, Conn./Conard) in the 1- and 3-meter diving events, sophomore Erin Swardenski (Fremont, Calif./Washington) in the 100 backstroke and senior Claire Kozlowski (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) in the 100 Individual Medley in an outstanding time of 1:14.57.

In the relays, senior Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), Gustafson, Schulz and Lacy teamed up to take the top spot in the 200 medley, and Wilson, Faas, Schulz and Lacy were the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle.

On the men's side, Wittenberg winners included senior AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) in the 200 and 400 freestyle events, sophomore Steven Stuthers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) in the 50 and 100 backstroke events, junior James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, freshman Jacob Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North) in the 50 and 100 butterfly events and 100 Individual Medley, freshman Nathan Yoder (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) in the 1-meter diving, junior Jared Crum (Galveston, Ind./Lewis Cass) in the 100 freestyle, junior Eric Roberts (Willits, Calif./Willits) in the 3-meter diving and senior Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) in the 800 freestyle in a sparkling time of 9:40.85.

In the relays, Stuthers, Burt, Dumstorf and Crum formed the winning team in the 200 medley, while senior Andrew Walsh (Woodville, Ohio/Oak Harbor), London, Dumstorf and Crum were victorious in the 200 freestyle.
